Solatube International is a proud member of
Kingspan Light + Air.
We manufacture high-performance products that lower electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing the lives of those who live, work, and play in the buildings we help create.
Helping Drive Sustainability, Innovation and Performance
Sustainable design and development have inspired design professionals, architects, and builders to stretch their imaginations and create high-performance spaces that reduce environmental impact and enhance the lives of occupants.
With no power and minimum maintenance, Solatube Tubular Daylighting is a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly way to bring light to indoor spaces. Due to the excellent thermal efficiency of a Solatube daylight system, minimum heat is lost during the winter, ensuring indoor temperatures remain pleasant and constant, reducing the need for heating. On hot days, minimum heat enters the building, reducing the need for cooling.
Making an impact on the environment in many different ways…
Light Energy Savings
Electric lighting comprises almost 25% of the total electricity used in buildings in the United States and buildings comprise over 75% of the total electricity used nationwide, so implementing ways to improve the performance of lighting is an important endeavor.
Solatube deployments substantially reduce the energy used for interior lighting during daylight hours. By using renewable energy from the sun, a Solatube installation reduces electrical energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions created during electricity generation.
HVAC Savings
Turning off electric lights reduces the heat that electric lights inject into building interiors. In this way, a Solatube deployment decreases energy expenses by reducing HVAC use to remove heat generated by electric light operation. Solatube tubular daylighting devices minimize solar heat gain compared to other fenestration products and reduce HVAC loads that would be needed to remove the heat from the building.
Reconfigurable Building Design
Solatube’s ability to duct daylight to where it is needed also means that tubular daylighting allows for future interior design layout flexibility. If a building’s interior layout changes, Solatube’s light distribution lens and tubing can easily be re-aligned to new locations. Fixtures can also be swapped out and new effect lenses or lighting controls can be added or removed to easily customize a new space. As a result, unlike traditional windows or skylights, a TDD daylighting solution is adaptable and reconfigurable over time, reducing the need for a building remodel.
Recycled Content
Our products contain post-consumer and post-industrial materials. Our aluminum tubing, which is at the core of our daylighting products, is made out of 50% post-consumer materials.
We are also committed to reducing our carbon footprint and minimizing our environmental impact as set forth in Kingspan’s global sustainability initiative.
Solatube is proud to be part of Kingspan’s 10-year global sustainability strategy:
Planet Passionate
Through Planet Passionate we are determined to reduce our manufacturing carbon (CO2e) emissions to as close to zero as technically possible, together with halving carbon intensity in our primary supply chain. To learn more about these and our other targets, plus our partnerships and global commitments, explore the global Planet Passionate Hub on our Kingspan Group website or follow our journey on social media.
Solatube Planet Passionate Communities
At the heart of Planet Passionate Communities is an ambition to create a positive legacy and a better world. Solatube passionately devotes time and resources to support local communities in many different ways.
