Today, Solatube International is proud to announce the launch of our new Sustainability Page on the solatube.com website.
Our new Solatube Sustainability Page is a testament to our commitment to inspiring architects, design professionals and builders to envision spaces that not only captivate building occupants but also contribute to a greener world.
As a proud subsidiary of Kingspan Light + Air, the new page also proudly highlights our alignment with Kingspan’s 10-year global sustainability strategy, “Planet Passionate.” This initiative aims to reduce manufacturing carbon emissions and carbon intensity in the primary supply chain. At Solatube, we are dedicated to minimizing our carbon footprint and environmental impact in tandem with Kingspan’s global sustainability goals.
At the core of our commitment is the Solatube Tubular Daylighting Device (TDD). Made from 50% post-consumer materials, our TDDs transcend conventional lighting solutions, contributing to lower electricity consumption, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and healthier spaces for the occupants within the building.
TDDs are crucial in reducing the energy used for interior lighting during daylight hours. As buildings account for over 75% of total electricity usage in the United States, our approach to daylighting is pivotal in steering us toward a more sustainable future.
Electric lighting constitutes almost 25% of the total electricity used in buildings in the United States. TDDs leverage renewable energy from the sun, reducing electrical energy consumption and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions associated with electricity generation.
By decreasing the need for electric lighting – thus decreasing the heat that electric lights inject into building interiors, our TDDs indirectly contribute to HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) savings.
Our Sustainability Page also proudly showcases the adaptability of TDDs. Unlike traditional windows or skylights, our TDDs allow for reconfigurable building design,
saving the need for new daylighting systems to replace the old ones. The flexibility of our TDDs permits easy realignment of light distribution lenses and tubing, accommodating changes in interior layouts without the need for extensive remodeling.
Furthermore, Solatube TDDs offer an innovative way to achieve LEED certification through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), contributing to a more sustainable built environment.
In fact, using our products can qualify buildings to earn LEED points in a variety of categories, including Indoor Environmental Quality, Energy and Atmosphere and Innovation in Design.
In conclusion, our new Sustainability Page isn’t just a digital presence—it’s a path towards a brighter and more sustainable future. Join us in this pursuit of sustainability! You can start by visiting our new Sustainability Page today at solatube.com/commercial/sustainability.
